August 6, 2024 August 7, 2024 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Virtual Classroom via Zoom | WashU Managers – Leading Others (at least one staff direct report) |
Virtual Manager Orientation sessions occur over two consecutive half-days. Attendees must attend both days in order for this course to be marked as completed.
WashU knows that managers play a key role in living out the mission and achieving the goals of the University. The primary objective of this orientation program is to support a newly hired or promoted manager’s successful transition to a supervisory role within the University. It’s important to note, however, that the training is not just for new managers!
All managers can benefit from a refresher on these topics, as policies and employment laws are constantly evolving. All managers can benefit from understanding university policies and best practices, knowing the right people to contact for assistance, and learning critical skills that support successful working relationships.
Newly hired or promoted managers are encouraged to attend manager orientation (MO) within 90 days of their hire date or promotion date. They can choose to participate in one of the two available options:
- One full-day in-person session is offered every other month at the Link in the Loop or
- Two consecutive half-day virtual sessions via Zoom offered every month.
Participants will:
- Explore key information needed to successfully manage employee performance and organizational initiatives
- Examine HR policies and identify best practices for managing effectively at WashU
Class Duration: One full-day in-person session (8 hours, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or two half-day virtual sessions (4 hours per session, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
Audience: This class is for all WashU newly hired or promoted managers who have at least one staff direct report. (Leading Others)
Facilitators: HR Functional Leaders, including employee relations, operations, compensation, recruitment, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
An important note: This virtual session is being held via Zoom.
