Virtual Session

The Department of Psychiatry Employee and Family Clinical Service invites you to a series of webinar presentations focused on relationships. Our interconnectedness with others is a part of being human. We navigate a multitude of relationships in our lives: co-workers, friends, family, neighbors, and more. We hope you join us in this series as we explore some key facets of healthy relationships with others. We will be discussing communication styles and what they have to do with conflict, the critical factors that contribute to relationship health, and how to understand and apply limit-setting for relationship wellbeing.

Join the Department of Psychiatry in a presentation about communication styles and how they impact the relationships we have with others. In this session, we will focus on how the communication styles we most commonly use impact our effectiveness in navigating conflicts and disagreements with others.

Some things we will cover include:

  • Identifying aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive communication.
  • The pros and cons of different communication styles.
  • How to spot the styles we use most comfortably in different situations.
  • How to practice assertiveness, even in situations where it is not our go-to style.
  • How to navigate conflict with others using a communication style different than our own.
