Time Off that may be Available to You
Paid Parental Leave
- If full-time faculty, up to 15 consecutive weeks of paid Parental Leave
- Parental Leave must be completed within one year of child’s birth or adoption
FMLA
- If eligible, up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave
- Runs concurrently with any paid Parental leave
Process to Request a Leave
- Notify Department Chair and then contact WashU’s Leaves team to request FMLA and paid Parental Leave at least 30 days in advance of your planned absence.
- Upon receipt of your request, WashU’s Leaves team will send you paperwork, including a medical certification form that will need to be completed by your or your spouse’s/partner’s healthcare provider.
- Return the completed forms to the WashU Leaves team within 15 calendar days.
- The WashU Leaves team will determine which leaves of absence you are eligible for and notify you and your Department Chair.
- If you are the birth parent, prior to returning to work, provide WashU’s Leaves team with a return-to-work release form.
