Focus Sessions
Specialty conversations hosted over two hours virtually focused on specific topics most relevant to managers at WashU. These highly interactive sessions will start with a featured speaker, include an opportunity for Q&A, move into breakout brainstorming and discussion, and conclude with large group reflections and takeaways. Intentionally designed for WashU managers at any level with at least one direct report. Find course descriptions below. Enroll through Workday.
Leading in Uncertainty
This seven-week intensive program brings together peers from across WashU to learn together how to use The Leadership Challenge as a framework to be an effective leader during times of uncertainty. This program utilizes in-person learning sessions, virtual learning sessions, small group discussions, and individual reflection to maximize development throughout the program. We recommend participants set aside six to eight hours per week to dedicate to this program, though that will vary by participant and week. Applications have closed for fall and spring programs. Requirements vary by program. Click here to learn more.
Feedback and Action Planning Bootcamp
Blended modality summer bootcamp to help staff collect, analyze, and apply feedback to their own development plans. Participants in this bootcamp will need previous experience with The Leadership Challenge via Emerging Leaders, LEAD, or Leading in Uncertainty. More information to come in Spring 2026.
Institute for Leadership Excellence (ILE)
As of spring 2025, the Institute for Leadership Excellence program has been paused in an effort to offer a broader range of initiatives to a larger audience of staff leaders and managers. View the previous program and its cohorts. We do not have an anticipated return date at this time.
Faculty Transformational Leadership Institute
This cohort-based program offered through WashU’s Office of the Provost is open to tenured and mid-career teaching, research, and practice faculty who currently serve or aspire to serve in administrative or academic leadership positions on the Danforth Campus.
