Domestic Animal Policy

In order to provide for the health, safety and welfare of all persons on property owned or controlled by Washington University, the following rules are established to control domestic animals on university property. (Domestic animals are any dog, cat or tamed animal intended to be a pet or companion for a person).

1. Domestic animals shall not be permitted within buildings on property owned or controlled by Washington University, with the exception of domestic animals specifically trained and certified to provide assistance to persons with disabilities or University owned animals with specific training and/or certifications (such as a police canine officer).
2. Domestic animals on Washington University grounds shall not be left unattended. Domestic animals on the grounds of Washington University must be on a leash, rope or lead of not more than six (6) feet in length and held by a responsible person.
3. Any person bringing a domestic animal onto the grounds of Washington University shall be responsible for removal of any feces deposited by the animal, as well as the clean up of any other waste products or damages done by the domestic animal to Washington University property.
