What is Summertime

This physical activity program with all-things-summer theme transports you back to the vitality of childhood with the season’s fond memory-inducing images.

When does the program start?

Registration opens Monday, June 20; you may begin recording Monday, June 27. All teams must be formed by Friday, July 1. The team competition will end Sunday, July 24, but you may update activity until the team scores freeze on Friday, July 29.

Who can participate?

All benefit eligible employees are able to participate.  Summertime gives you simple, motivating tools to track progress, providing instant feedback from your favorite tracking device or app.

How does it work?

You’ll record progress by collecting 20 fireflies – 1 each day, when you log 4000+ steps during the 4-week program. You can use an app or tracking device, enter manually, or add exercise minutes that convert automatically.

Is there team participation?

Yes! In this optional friendly competition, teams of 4-20 challenge each other to build up points (the group that averages the most tops the leaderboard). After registering, read How It Works on the Team page to learn more.

What is the goal?

To earn 120 points (15+ a week):

  • 4000-5999 steps = 3 points (orange firefly)
  • 6000-9999 steps = 4 points (red firefly)
  • 10,000+ steps = 5 points (purple firefly)

NOTE: You don’t have to wear a tracking device to record steps – plug in your activity and exercise minutes, then the Step Converter automatically adjusts them.

Set a challenging yet realistic target that develops exercise habits you can maintain for life.

How do the activity trackers/apps sync to my Summertime account?

After you register and connect a device or app to your Summertime account, its simple. Just put your device on in the morning, then each time you sync it with your computer or app and log into your Summertime account, you can see your steps add up.

If my activity isn’t accurately measured with a tracker – like cycling – how do I count steps?

Use the Step Converter in the Log drawer. Enter the activity and minutes, then Summertime does the conversion for you.

Why do I want to be on a team?

It’s fun! Plus, joining with others striving for similar goals keeps you accountable — and doubles your chances of success. So start or join a team with members close by, across the hall, or around the world — the most important thing is to recruit others who are motivated to be active and healthy.

How do I get credit for my everyday movement if I’m not using a tracking device?

You’ve recorded your dedicated exercise minutes, but what about your movement throughout the day? You can manually add 2000-4000 steps for incidental movement each day, based on how active you were:

  • 2000 steps: I mostly stayed at my workstation except for occasional breaks.
  • 3000 steps: I moved a moderate amount, getting away from my workstation for short walks several times.
  • 4000 steps: I moved a lot, with frequent short walks to perform my job.

What are Thrive Thursday challenges?

If you’re on an official team, you’ll find an additional activity in your Thursday morning email and on the Team page – an everyday task to complete before midnight CT to earn a bonus point toward your team score.

Is there a mobile app?

Log activity, view recipes, visit attractions and track your team – right from the palm of your hand. The Summertime mobile app automatically syncs with your online account…just log in using the same email and password.

What if I have questions about the program?

Use the Contact link at the bottom of each website page. A Summertime representative will respond within 1 business day.
