WashU is committed to providing employees with resources to help create and maintain a healthy work-life balance, and caring for your family is a part of that commitment. Beginning Jan. 2022, WashU began a pilot program with to provide additional back-up child and adult care services to benefit-eligible faculty and staff to help find reliable, safe and vetted adult and child care providers when regular care is unavailable. This pilot program is in addition to the current back-up care offering through our partnership with Bright Horizons. Now you have more choice to find care when you need it. 

Adult and child care coverage through 

Benefit-eligible faculty and staff can access five days of back-up coverage for child or adult emergency care through Use back-up care when your school or daycare center is closed, you have different work hours or a work event in the evening, your child or adult care normal person is sick or on vacation, or you need help after a medical procedure.  

Faculty and staff also have a premium membership to where you can find child care providers and other household help. With this membership, you can also specifically search for providers for sick or quarantined children due to COVID-19.

To access care, visit the Family Care Hub to view family care options or please follow the instructions below to register and find care through You must register online prior to finding for coverage and will need your WashU employee ID number.   

Register for back-up care by: 

  1. Click “Let’s Get Started” and follow the prompts to register. Your Employee ID will be the letter “E” followed by your six-digit employee ID number. Use these same credentials to login going forward.  
  2. Login at or the Care@Work app to get started. You can also call 866-814-1638. 
  3. Identify the type of care you need on the website or the app. If you’re calling in, press the number that corresponds to your care needs. 
  4. Follow the prompts to complete your search for care. 

Copays for apply. In-home copays will be $7 per hour for child or adult care, and $20 each day for in-center child care. Back-up care reservations should be used when your regular provider is unavailable.
