Taking Action:  
Diversity and Inclusion Professional Development Workshop

Washington University is seeking to improve diversity and inclusion ensuring that hiring managers are part of the process. This workshop is designed to engage hiring managers in instituting goals, acknowledgement, and rewards. Collectively we are charged with generating greater investment in embracing diversity and inclusion initiatives that increase tangible results and yield successful outcomes. 

Course Goals:

  • Build management commitment to developing a diverse workforce and a climate of mutual respect on your team and in your department.
  • Develop leadership skills to attract, hire and retain a diverse workforce.
  • Create a climate where staff are encouraged to develop their talents and ideas. 

Course Objectives:

  • At the end of the session, managers will be knowledgeable and understand how to mitigate unconscious bias on upcoming decision-points.
  • Managers will recognize, navigate, and/or mitigate biases in team or department.
  • At the end of the session, managers will utilize best practices to create a more diverse workplace.

Prerequisites:  It is preferred that participants have completed Diversity & Inclusion 1.0 and 2.0 training before taking this class.

Audience:  Washington University Directors, Managers, Supervisors.

Parking:  WashU employees wanting to park at west campus must have a Zone 5 parking permit.  If you don’t have a Zone 5 permit, we encourage you to utilize the free West Campus Shuttle to commute between the Danforth and West Campuses.  It is in service Monday through Friday from West Campus to Danforth Campus every 15 minutes, with service beginning at West Campus at 7 a.m.  Employees must show a valid employee ID to board.

WashU employees must display a parking hang tag at all times and can only park in designated visitor parking spaces. The lot behind the building will be designated as visitor parking and is the only spot to park when on west campus.
