Great leaders move us. They ignite our passion and inspire the best in us. No matter what leaders set out to do—whether it’s creating strategy or mobilizing teams to action—their success depends on how they do it. While every manager has a default leadership style, the most successful leaders learn to use multiple different leadership styles to improve the effectiveness of their leadership, their teams and their creative enterprises. According to research conducted by Daniel Goleman, there are six leadership styles, which are associated with effective leadership.

This session will provide participants with strategies and techniques from the six effective leadership styles researched by Daniel Goleman, which managers need to successfully lead and develop their staff and improve the productivity of their team. Also, leaders and managers will learn to master all of the styles and use each style appropriately as the circumstances demand.

Course Objectives:
Participants will learn to:

  • Examine their own leadership style and the impact it has on their staff
  • Explore Daniel Goleman’s six effective leadership styles
  • Understanding the importance of building a repertoire of different leadership styles
  • Learn when each leadership style is most and least effective in the workplace

Audience: This class is for Washington University Directors, Managers, and Supervisors with direct reports that are WashU employees. Those who supervise students will only be considered on a case-by-case basis if the class is not full.
