Employment Verification

The University has selected The Work Number, which is managed by the TALX Corporation (a locally owned and operated company), to provide automated employment and income verification services for our faculty and staff.

Effective July 1, 2004, organizations needing proof of your employment and/or income should be directed to The Work Number at www.theworknumber.com or 1-800-367- 5690.

Important Employment & Income Verification Information

For employment or income verification requests on any Washington University employee, please use the following procedures:
 

Procedure to follow when verification requests are received by:

Mail or Fax

  • Mail or fax back the incomplete verification request along with a copy of the Verifier Information Sheet to inform the verifier that Washington University uses The Work Number to provide automated employment and income verifications on our employees. Note: All Social Services verifications should be performed by W.U.’s Payroll Department.

  • Do NOT perform any employment or income verifications via the phone, mail or fax. In the event that a verifier refuses to use this fee service, ask them to contact TALX at verifierhelp@talx.com. TALX will respond within 24 hours.

Phone or Voice Message

  • Inform the verifier that Washington University uses The Work Number to provide automated employment and income verifications on our employees. Note: All Social Services verifications should be performed by W.U.’s Payroll Department.

  • Furnish the verifier with the Washington University Employer Code: 11570

Please note: Washington University will periodically receive calls to question the verification provided by TALX. Due to the unique employment relationships of some of our employees, data provided by WU to TALX will sometimes be incomplete. In these situations, it is appropriate to answer the verifiers’ questions.

Why does Washington University use The Work Number to provide automated employment and income verifications?

  • Verifiers get immediate, convenient access to information that is accurate and secure.

  • The employee receives the benefit of a quick turnaround service. There is no cost to the employee to use this service.

What is a Salary Key? How does an employee obtain a Salary Key?

  • A Salary Key (a 6-digit code number) allows employees to have control over third-party access to their income information.

  • The employee may get a Salary Key by visiting www.theworknumber.com or by calling 1-800-367-2884.

Who can use The Work Number service? Who is considered a verifier?

  • Any lending institution, property manager or other business that needs to verify employment or income of an employee.

What is considered Social Services verification?   

  • Social Services verifications are used for Food Stamps, TANF, Medicaid, Child Support, WIC, Social Security, etc.
