Benefit Spotlight: Prescription Drug Coverage
The university provides prescription drug coverage for faculty, staff, postdoctoral research appointees and clinical fellows, as well as covered dependents, enrolled in Washington University's health plans. Prescription drug plan benefits are administered by Express Scripts.
Tips for getting the most from your prescription drug plan benefits
- Use a participating retail pharmacy for short-term prescriptions: You can visit any of nearly 50,000 retail pharmacies, including most major drugstore chains.
- Generic drugs: If a prescription written by your physician allows a generic equivalent, purchase the generic medication rather than the brand name drug.
- For maintenance medications that are taken on a long-term on-going basis, use the mail-order pharmacy to save costs. Through the Express Scripts Pharmacy, you can obtain up to a 90-day supply of your (non-specialty) maintenance medications at a reduced out-of-pocket cost. Your medications are conveniently mailed to your home, with free standard shipping.
- Register on www.express-scripts.com to access information about your prescription drug benefits and claims, to locate a participating retail pharmacy, and to request a replacement ID card and/or print a temporary ID card.
